VPI, PVU, and PV College Join Hands to Support Communities Affected by Typhoon No. 3
Recently, staff and employees of the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI), the Petroleum University (PVU), and the Petroleum College (PV College) organized a fundraising campaign to support people in provinces severely affected by Typhoon No. 3.
Typhoon No. 3 (Wipha) and its subsequent flooding caused widespread devastation across Nghệ An province, leaving 4 people dead and 4 others injured. Nearly 7,500 houses were destroyed, buried, washed away, or damaged; 40 schools and thousands of hectares of crops and production forests were ruined. Critical infrastructure, including roads, schools, healthcare stations, and government offices, also suffered extensive destruction. The total damage is estimated at approximately VND 3,546 billion.
According to Mr. Nguyễn Văn Tư, under the direction of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) and the Petrovietnam Trade Union, employees of units under the Grassroots Trade Union of Scientific Research and Training have upheld the Group’s tradition of responsibility and solidarity by donating and sharing hardships with local people, helping them overcome the aftermath of the disaster and resume normal life.
According to Mr. Lê Văn Khoa, Chairman of the Grassroots Trade Union of Scientific Research and Training, as of August 15, 2025, the total contributions from employees of VPI, PVU, and PV College had reached nearly VND 150 million. These funds were directly transferred to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of Nghệ An, Điện Biên, and Sơn La provinces to provide timely support, helping local residents overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
