Accelerating the Commercialization of Products from Scientific Research
Recently, a delegation from the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), led by Mr. Bui Minh Tien, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Member of the Group’s Members’ Council, visited the Southern branch of the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI).
Joining the working session were Mr. Phan Anh Minh – Member of the Petrovietnam Party Committee’s Executive Board, Secretary of the Party Committee for Science Research and Training, and Chairman of the Council of the Vietnam Petroleum University (PVU); Mr. Nguyen Van Tu – Acting Director of VPI; Mr. Phan Minh Quoc Binh – Rector of PVU and VPI Deputy Director; Mr. Ngo Xuan Hung – Acting Rector of the Petroleum College (PVCollege); along with leaders of Petrovietnam’s specialized departments and representatives from VPI’s centers and affiliated units in the Southern region.
The purpose of the meeting was to review operations, discuss development orientations, and consider key proposals in research, innovation, and energy transition. The Petrovietnam delegation toured the Analytical Testing Center, which houses core laboratories for Core Samples, Distillation, Reservoir Fluids, Crude Oil and Petroleum Products, Petrochemicals – Biofuels, Biology, and Environmental Chemistry.
During the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Tu, Acting Director of VPI, reported on the implementation results of the Institute’s plan for the first seven months of 2025, its development orientations for the coming period, and the advantages and challenges encountered in carrying out assigned tasks – especially in the context of incomplete synchronization of mechanisms and policies governing science and technology management.
Mr. Tu expressed his hope to continue receiving the Group’s attention and guidance on R&D directions, resource supplementation, and the prompt issuance of policies for science, technology, and innovation management in line with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated 22 December 2024 of the Politburo, as well as the Law on Science, Technology, and Innovation.
VPI leadership proposed that Petrovietnam soon issue its Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy to 2030 with a vision to 2050; review and assess the outcomes of long-term scientific research programs for the 2020–2025 period; and, based on these, define and launch new programs in scientific research, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
In his directive remarks, Mr. Bui Minh Tien, Member of the Members’ Council of Petrovietnam, highly commended VPI’s achievements, particularly in developing new products that integrate and create synergies within Petrovietnam’s value chain.
To accelerate product commercialization in the coming time, Mr. Tien requested that member units cooperate and support VPI in pilot testing products derived from research results, assessing product quality, and ensuring close integration between scientific research, training, application, and technology transfer.
In the environmental sector, VPI is to continue updating and developing its environmental database to contribute to effective environmental management and Petrovietnam’s sustainable development goals.
Mr. Tien also emphasized that VPI should further develop its team of experts, plan for the recruitment and training of high-quality young human resources, make effective use of existing equipment, and proactively propose funding from the Science and Technology Development Fund for the procurement of modern, advanced equipment.
On behalf of VPI’s leadership, Mr. Nguyen Van Tu expressed his sincere thanks for the Group’s attention and affirmed that VPI will focus on developing new products; strengthening cooperation with entities within Petrovietnam’s ecosystem to apply and commercialize these products; and continuing to build a high-quality workforce.
