13/08/2026

On 13 August 2026, the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI), a member unit of the Vietnam National Industry-Energy Group (Petrovietnam), and Beicip Technology Solutions Sdn. Bhd. (Beicip-Franlab Asia) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in research and technology applications in the field of petroleum exploration and production.

Under the MoU, VPI and Beicip-Franlab Asia will collaborate on advanced studies in geoscience, geophysics, and reservoir engineering to support exploration activities, field development, and petroleum resource assessment. The cooperation framework also creates opportunities for both parties to jointly pursue studies on unconventional resources and CCS/CCUS, contributing to petroleum asset optimization and the sustainable development of the energy industry.

The two organizations will also enhance cooperation in training, expert exchange, knowledge sharing, and human capital development, thereby improving research quality, standardizing technical workflows, and promoting the application of new technologies and innovative solutions. In addition, both parties will leverage their respective strengths and expertise to develop technical solutions and pursue potential projects in Vietnam.

VPI and Beicip-Franlab Asia sign a MoU to strengthen cooperation in research and technology applications.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Mohamad Othman - Vice President of Strategic Ventures, representing Beicip-Franlab Asia, expressed his appreciation for VPI's role, technical capabilities, and extensive practical experience in providing research, consulting, and science and technology services to support oil and gas exploration and production activities in Vietnam. He emphasized that the signing of the MoU marks an important step toward strengthening technical cooperation between the two organizations and leveraging their respective strengths in geoscience and geophysical studies, basin modelling, petroleum system modelling, reservoir modelling, prospect evaluation, and field development optimization. Leader of Beicip-Franlab Asia looks forward to developing practical cooperation programmes with VPI through this partnership framework, promoting technology sharing, training, knowledge transfer, and the development of solutions tailored to the needs of the Vietnamese market.

On behalf of VPI's leadership, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Deputy General Director of VPI, highly appreciated Beicip-Franlab Asia's capabilities, experience, and technologies in the oil and gas exploration and production sector, particularly its advanced solutions and digital technologies supporting geoscience and geophysical studies. VPI’s leader stated that the MoU would provide a solid foundation for establishing a long-term cooperation framework between the two organizations, fostering joint research activities, training programmes, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, while facilitating the development of highly applicable technical solutions to support Petrovietnam's exploration, appraisal, and production activities.

He also emphasized that, as Petrovietnam's specialized research and technology institution, VPI expects to further build upon the successful cooperation model established through previous projects with Beicip-Franlab Asia. Under this model, each party contributes its unique strengths: VPI through its in-depth understanding of Vietnam's geological setting, data, practical industry needs, and petroleum systems; and Beicip-Franlab Asia through its international experience, methodologies, technical workflows, and advanced technology solutions. Based on the MoU, both parties expect to progressively develop more effective cooperation mechanisms, including joint technical working groups, training programmes, technical workshops, and specific collaborative projects in the years ahead.

The two parties also agreed to establish a coordination team to facilitate the implementation of the cooperation activities under the MoU. Through this mechanism, VPI and Beicip-Franlab Asia aim to enhance research effectiveness, accelerate the application of advanced technologies, and develop innovative technical solutions to support the sustainable growth of the oil and gas industry.
