On June 24, 2026, the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI), a unit of the Vietnam National Industry – Energy Group (Petrovietnam), and the National Power System and Market Operator (NSMO) signed a cooperation agreement on the research, development, and application of technological solutions to improve the efficiency of power system and electricity market operations.

Under the agreement, VPI and NSMO will work together to research, develop, and apply digital models, digital twins, data analytics tools, simulation, forecasting, and optimization solutions for power system and electricity market operations. VPI will take the lead in coordinating with technology partners and developing models, algorithms, and data analytics products to support power system operations.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Duc Ninh, Member of the Board of Directors and President and CEO of NSMO, said that amid the rapid expansion and increasing complexity of the national power system, the development of a centralized and unified data platform to support NSMO’s operational management has become an urgent requirement. NSMO’s leadership expressed the expectation that the combination of operational experience and research and technology development capabilities would deliver practical outcomes, helping enhance power system operation capacity and ensure national energy security.

Dr. Nguyen Van Tu, General Director of the Vietnam Petroleum Institute, said VPI would focus its resources and work closely with NSMO and relevant units to effectively implement the cooperation areas. The goal is to develop high-quality science and technology products with strong practical value, effectively supporting power system operations and contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam’s energy industry.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Sy, Head of the Science, Technology and Digital Transformation Department of Petrovietnam, said the Group is focusing on research and development of strategic technologies. He expressed the expectation that the cooperation program between VPI and NSMO would generate concrete products with practical value, directly contributing to the development of the energy industry and the national power system.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, Director General of the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion, under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, highly appreciated the cooperation between VPI and NSMO. She said the partnership brings together the capabilities and experience of the two organizations and is expected to create technology products with strong practical application value. She requested that the two sides closely follow the operational needs of the power system, place strong emphasis on data governance and security, and develop feasible, effective, and scalable solutions for broader application across the industry and trade sector.
