VPI and Rockwell Engineering explore green hydrogen production partnership in Vietnam
24/10/2025
On October 24, 2025, the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI) held a working session with Rockwell Engineering and Equipment Co. to discuss potential collaboration in clean energy, with a focus on the production, storage and use of clean hydrogen - a direction aligned with Vietnam’s commitment to reducing emissions under COP26.
At the meeting, Mr. Nick Rockwell, Vice President of Business Development, provided an overview of global and U.S. hydrogen development trends. He also shared insights on implementing small- and medium-scale green hydrogen projects, with production capacities of up to 250 kg/day and system deployment timelines of just six months.
Dr. Nguyễn Văn Tư, Deputy General Director in charge of VPI make a speech at the meeting.
Rockwell’s technology leverages renewable energy sources such as wind, solar power, and wastewater into hydrogen via electrolysis, methane conversion to create hydrogen, and carbon capture using SMR, biomass pyrolysis to produce hydrogen and biochar.
The research teams of VPI and Rockwell will discuss further on technical solutions, cooperation models, and feasibility assessments for the pilot green hydrogen production project in Vietnam.
Mr. Brad Rockwell, President of Rockwell, expressed interest in partnering with VPI to launch a pilot clean hydrogen production project in Vietnam in the near future. Rockwell will provide technology transfer, technical training, and support for deploying storage systems, hydrogen refueling stations, and related applications.
Dr. Nguyễn Văn Tư, Deputy General Director in charge of VPI, praised Rockwell’s technology and expertise, noting that this presents an opportunity for both sides to collaborate on research and application of clean fuel production technologies in Vietnam. He proposed that the research teams of VPI and Rockwell continue discussions on technical solutions, cooperation models, and feasibility assessments for the pilot project, as a foundation for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on clean hydrogen collaboration in Vietnam.

VPI leadership also stated that the VPI will report this cooperation initiative to the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group (Petrovietnam) to ensure alignment with Petrovietnam’s clean energy development strategy.

Rockwell is a U.S.-based clean energy company with over 30 years of experience in green infrastructure and technologies. The company is currently focusing on providing clean hydrogen systems for SMEs, with a production capacity of 250–500 kilograms per day and a deployment timeline of 3–6 months. Rockwell is also partnering with the Campbell’s Company to implement a project that produces 1,000 kilograms of hydrogen per day from discarded tomatoes.
